Empowering the Unhoused Through Education: Tenancy 101 at Union Mission Ministries
Norfolk, VA — The Hampton Roads REALTORS® Foundation proudly hosted another impactful session of its Tenancy 101 course for residents of Union Mission Ministries, a nonprofit dedicated to serving individuals experiencing homelessness. This recent session was held at the Bashford Men's Shelter, where attendees engaged in practical, empowering discussions about tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities.
The course was led by HRRF Board President Phil Kazmierczak, whose engaging and accessible teaching style helped spark thoughtful questions and meaningful dialogue among participants.
Doug Preston, Senior Director of Programs at The Mission had this to say about the session: “As Senior Director of Programs here at the Union Mission, I have planned, participated in, and observed a number of sessions facilitated by community partners seeking to help our guests. All have been beneficial in their own way. However, the session concerning Tenant/Landlord Education—Tenancy 101—ranks right up there among the best. The information was practical, easy to understand, and sparked thoughtful questions from the guests. I believe all of our guests should be exposed to this information at some point in his or her stay at the Union Mission.”
This collaboration reflects the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting housing stability and self-sufficiency through education and community partnerships.
