HRRA and Virginia Beach Public Schools Celebrate Fair Housing Through Art

L to R: 2nd Place winner, Melody Pilgrim; Landstown AP Art Teacher, Dana Zumbrum; Art Show winner, Isabelle Petit

Chesapeake, VA – April 1, 2025 – The Hampton Roads REALTORS® Association (HRRA) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee proudly hosted the Fair Housing Art Show on April 1, showcasing the creative and passionate works of local high school students from Virginia Beach Public Schools. The event provided a unique platform for these young artists to express their perspectives on housing equality through their artwork.

Attendees were treated to an exhibition of thought-provoking pieces that highlighted the importance of fair housing. “It was a joy to see the students create art that portrays their communities and personal DEI experiences,” said Dana Zumbrum, AP Art Teacher at Landstown High School.

Following the art display, expert speakers delved into the history of Fair Housing, discussed current challenges, and shared information on available down payment assistance grants and the importance of building generational wealth.

The event was a wonderful opportunity for HRRA members and affiliates to appreciate art, engage with the artists and their families, and connect with the community. Guests enjoyed a variety of hors d'oeuvres while participating in the discussions.

The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the art show winners:

1st Place: Isabelle Petit for her piece titled "Home is where the heart is"
2nd Place: Melody Pilgrim for her artwork "Your Trash"
3rd Place: Kimberly Leon for her creation "Constructing the Dream"
HRRA's DEI Committee extends its heartfelt congratulations to these talented individuals and thanks all participants for their contributions to the Fair Housing Month event.
